This document provides an introduction to and instructions for the use of AGDEX, a comprehensive numeric filing system to classify and organize a wide variety of agricultural publications. The index is subdivided and color coded according to the following categories: (1) field crops; (2) horticulture; (3) forestry; (4) animal science; (5) soils; (6) diseases and pests; (7) agricultural engineering; (8) agricultural economics; (9) agricultural occupations; and (10) open. Within each category, outlines of more detailed classification are provided. The text gives instructions for installing the AGDEX system, classifying publications, assigning numbers to documents, and placing publications in the file. Nearly 1200 color-coded gummed labels are provided to facilitate easy implementation of the system. (EMH)
