The proceedings from the Toronto Conference present an overview of domestic violence, the roles of the police and judicial system, male/female relationships in domestic violence, the clinical treatment of domestic violence, domestic violence and education, social services, and a bibliography on battered wives. The multi-dimensionality of, and the multi-variate causation factors associated with, family violence are reiterated. It is hoped that there will be change through organized political efforts, civil and criminal suits which pressure the systems to address the problem, and in the many research efforts geared to providing more data and insightful questioning. Very little evidence emerged from the conference to suggest that the Canadian milieu is radically different from the United States, where the public's attitude to domestic violence and structural arrangements nourish violent acts bewteen family members.
