Knowledge Management and Professional Work: A Communication Perspective on the Knowledge-Based Organization.
Heaton, Lorna; Taylor, James R.
Management Communication Quarterly, v16 n2 p210-36 Nov 2002
Challenges two common assumptions in the literature on Knowledge Management: that knowledge originates in the individual and that once made explicit, subsequent interpretation of the representations of knowledge in symbolic form is unproblematic. Argues that the key to understanding the generation and sharing of knowledge is the role of text as both knowledge representation (product) and the means by which communities sustain organization (process).
