The UN Decade of ESD: What Was Achieved in Scotland 2005-2014
Watson, Morag
Applied Environmental Education and Communication, v14 n2 p90-96 2015
This article explores the policy changes and actions that have taken place in Scotland between 2005 and 2014 in response to the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). This article examines the development and content of policy documents relating to schools, Further and Higher Education and Community Learning and Development, and how these were developed and implemented through a series of collaborative partnerships between non-governmental organizations, government ministers, civil servants, education bodies, and other educational stakeholders. This article also explores the impact these policy developments have had on Scotland's contribution to achieving the DESD goal "to integrate the principles, values, and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning" (UNESCO, 2014).
