Sweet Play
Leung, Shuk-kwan S.; Lo, Jane-Jane
Teaching Children Mathematics, v16 n6 p330-331 Feb 2010
This article features Sweet play math, a "math by the month" activity that involves decorating and making sugar cubes. Teachers may want to substitute straws, paper squares, alphabet blocks, or such commercially made manipulatives as Unifix[R] cubes for the real sweets. Given no allergy concerns, teachers and students alike would enjoy some sweet rewards after having a taste of these mathematical explorations. Full-sized students' activity sheets of sweet play for grades K-2, 3-4, and 5-6 are presented.
