Most of the material for this issue of the "Goldfinch," which explores the life of Carrie Chapman Catt, came from the archives of the State Historical Society of Iowa. Carrie Chapman Catt (1859-1947) was an Iowan who advocated woman suffrage and spent 26 years actively working for that cause. The issue contains a biography of Catt, and information about her two husbands who supported her suffrage work, the Iowa suffrage movement, Iowa men who worked for suffrage, other Iowa women who worked for the vote, and Carrie Chapman Catt's work in journalism. There are also activities for readers (e.g., word games and matching games), a time-line of the suffrage movement and Carrie Chapman Catt's life, some of the arguments for and against women's suffrage that appeared at the time, and a brief explanation of how inanimate objects can be used to interpret the past.
