Excellence in Community College Student Affairs
Knight, Ashley
New Directions for Community Colleges, n166 p5-12 Sum 2014
Student success, accountability, and educational outcomes have been strongly emphasized in U.S. community colleges in recent years. For those individuals serving in community college student affairs, intentional commitment to standards and competencies in professional practice is essential in order to achieve institutional expectations and to meet increasing external demands. Student affairs leaders must provide structure and support to staff members along the continuum of experience from emerging student affairs professionals to mid-level practitioners through senior-level executives in order to identify potential leaders and to develop succession plans for the community colleges of tomorrow. This chapter explores the framework of excellence in the support, preparation, and ongoing professional development of community college student affairs professionals.
