Are There Inherited Behavioral Traits that Predispose to Substance Abuse?
Tarter, Ralph E.
Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, v56 n2 p189-96 Apr 1988
Research suggests predisposition toward alcoholism and drug abuse by inherited behavioral propensities or temperaments which, through interaction with the physical and social environments, shape the development of the personality. Certain personality characteristics, specifically antisocial and neurotic traits, are also linked with the risk for substance abuse. Thus personality and its precursor, temperament, developmental and environmental factors, influence behavior. (Author/KS)
