Addressing Peer Death by Suicide: The School's Role in the Aftermath of Student Suicide
Paxson, Sarah A.
ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, Widener University, Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology
Adolescent suicide devastates family, friends, and the larger community of the deceased. This dissertation seeks to explore the impact of peer death by suicide on students in the school system, and the policies that schools have put in place to address these effects. This work will critically evaluate current suicide bereavement interventions, and recommend a state of the art suicide postvention program that will benefit the overall student body. The program is based on an extensive literature review related to causes of adolescent suicide and to adolescent bereavement following peer death by suicide.
