Sense of calling is often described with language steeped in religious tradition. It is variously described as a spiritual process or endeavor or as a summons by God to fulfill a specific purpose or task in life. This ethnographic case study examines how 18 senior faculty members of differing faith traditions expressed a religious sense of calling regarding their service. Interview data was collected using Berg's (2004) semi-standardized interview structure. Contextual data supplied by subjects were coded and qualitative descriptive analysis applied. Subjects possessed an abiding belief that God is intricately involved with the affairs of people of faith. Despite their differing faith traditions, each person expressed a religious sense of calling that compelled them to join the faculty at Regent.
