Mapping Joint Action.
Slawski, Carl
The flow diagrams in this document provide cognitive maps to aid in synthesizing diverse areas of knowledge in a special brand of field theory. A model is presented which highlights the domains of structural functionalism (with concepts of cultural, personal and societal systems) and symbolic interactionism (with the concepts of self, sentiments and role-taking). The paper offers an accounting scheme or extended check list for analyzing problems which can be viewed in terms of some combination of these variables. The basic diagram starts with conflict between two parties, thus emphasizing relationship over individual psychology. It deals with a classic problem of social science--how to handle conflict as a manageable problem, or use it as a stimulus to achieve orderly social change. (Author)
