Faculty Collaboration: How a Wiki Enhanced Communication, Organization, Accessibility, and Management of Writing a Book
Wright, Vivian H.; Burnham, Joy J.; Hooper, Lisa M.
Journal of Interactive Online Learning, v11 n1 p43-46 Spr 2012
Faculty members have collaborated on research studies, manuscripts, books, teaching pedagogies, and ideas for years. From exchanging marked-up paper copies to exchanging email attachments, as technology has progressed so have the techniques and methods of collaborating. However, often, faculty adhere to traditional methods of sharing work and thus may be unwilling to try new, innovative methods of co-creating writing products, which can be more efficient and manageable. Most recently, a technology appropriately named "wiki" has taken the web world by storm. In this article, the authors offer four primary domains that frame their uses of the wiki and present direction for other collaborators who may want to consider wiki use: (1) communication; (2) organization; (3) accessibility; and (4) management. They discuss how a wiki enhanced communication, organization, accessibility, and management of writing a book.
