Validating a Steiner-Waldorf Teacher Education Programme
Oberski, Iddo; Pugh, Alistair; MacLean, Astrid; Cope, Peter
Teaching in Higher Education, v12 n1 p135-139 Feb 2007
Steiner-Waldorf (SW) education, based on the work of Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925), provides a distinctive form of education. There are approximately 900 SW schools worldwide. The only teacher training course for SW education in Scotland is currently offered at the Edinburgh Rudolf Steiner School (ERSS). Although students are continuously assessed on various assignments, completion of the programme does not currently carry any formal credit. In this paper, the authors describe some outcomes of an ESCalate funded project designed to develop an audit tool for validation and apply this to the ERSS programme. The project identified some of the necessary developments to the course to meet the requirements of validation by the University of Stirling. The authors have designed an audit tool ("gateway document") to allow third party education providers and higher education institutions easy access into the process of validation. Here, the authors report on the result of the audit and raise some key questions for debate. (Contains 1 figure.)
