The Accidental Technology Steward: Or, How You Can Gamble Very Little and Gain a Lot
White, Nancy
Knowledge Quest, v35 n4 p32-35 Mar-Apr 2007
Technology stewardship is important in learning communities, where technology is not a primary focus and there is a lot of second-wave adoption. In schools, the students are usually first-wave adopters. Teachers, parents, and administrators are often the second wave; less comfortable with, interested in, or adept at technology adoption. Stewarding technology use for and between these two groups can assure that its use is generative, rather than a force that threatens to divide the community. But what if one did not ask for this job? This article talks about accidental technology stewardship and its benefits to the school and libraries. The author also offers practical tips and resources on how to become a community technology steward.
