Enhancing Urban Student Achievement Through Multi-Year Assignment and Family-Oriented School Practices.
Hampton, Frederick M.; And Others
ERS Spectrum, v15 n2 p7-15 Spr 1997
In 1993, East Cleveland Schools teamed with Cleveland State University and the Cleveland Foundation to pilot FAST (Families Are Students and Teachers). Kindergartners stay with the same teacher through second grade and benefit from summer enrichment programs and school/home interactions. A strong relationship-oriented program, coupled with effective teaching and parent involvement, averts economic and social barriers to student success. (MLH)
