An Interactive Computer-Based Training Program for Beginner Personal Computer Maintenance.
Summers, Valerie Brooke
A computer-assisted instructional program, which was developed for teaching beginning computer maintenance to employees of Unisys, covered external hardware maintenance, proper diskette care, making software backups, and electro-static discharge prevention. The procedure used in developing the program was based upon the Dick and Carey (1985) model of instructional systems development. The first of seven chapters provides an introduction to the project, including background information, a statement of the problem, the purpose of the project, and an overview of the methods and procedures employed. The next five chapters describe activities at each stage of the development process: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The final chapter provides a summary and recommendations. Appendixes include lists of companies and vendors contacted; the project plan; pretest, posttest, and embedded test questions; sample session screens; and the post-learning questionnaire. Tables and figures appear throughout, and field test data are included. (14 references) (GL)
