Block Curricula: A Guide to Teaching with Unit Blocks and Hollow Blocks in the Classroom.

This curriculum guide for preschool teachers was designed for use with wooden unit and hollow blocks to foster a variety of math, science, language, and social skills. Following an introduction to the curriculum and a discussion of cooperative learning and stages of block building, the guide is divided into three parts. Part 1 of the guide, "Unit Block Curriculum," contains 12 activities using unit blocks. This part also presents the block assortment needed to complete all the activities. Part 2, "Hollow Blocks," contains 21 activities using hollow blocks and other materials. Part 3, "Unit and Hollow Blocks," contains 16 activities combining unit and hollow blocks and other materials. For each activity, information is provided on the specific blocks and other materials needed, the objective of the activity, steps to implement the activity, areas of the preschool curriculum addressed in the activity or the skills developed, and for some activities, suggestions for enrichment.
