The book for teachers of English as a Second Language (ESL) contains 80 lists of words, expressions, constructions, ideas, and materials for use in ESL lesson planning and classroom instruction. The lists are presented in seven groups: (1) general vocabulary, consisting of 21 lists of English words used in various situations in daily life, including American idioms, foreign idioms, and cognates in French, German, and Spanish; (2) academic vocabulary, with lists for mathematics, science, and social studies; (3) basics of English parts of speech, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling; (4) grammar patterns and practice in sentence structure, subject/verb and time agreement, and common grammatical errors; (5) pronunciation, a group of 13 lists and charts for distinguishing and producing English sounds, stress, and intonation; (6) assessment, listing techniques for assessing students' competence in each language skill area; and (7) curriculum and instruction, providing practical teaching techniques, activities, and instructional resources.
