Global Dimensions in U.S. Education: The Secondary School.
Becker, James M.; East, Maurice A.
Globalized or "spaceship earth" approaches in secondary school curricula are reviewed in this booklet which is the second in a series of four. SO 003 090 is an abstract of the state of the art review of the globalized curriculum in the elementary grades. Perspectives on social education are discussed. A survey of international studies in secondary schools conducted by the authors is analyzed and summarized. In the last section challenges and prospects are summarized for those seeking change in international studies. Among the favorable developments are the scholarly groundwork for a fresh approach that was laid by curriculum development projects, influence of comparative studies, use of simulation and role playing in the classroom, impact of mass media and travel, use of data analysis, utilization of language and area studies personnel, ecological issues, and multiplicity of materials.
