This article presents a brief review of some new school science reference works. Two of the sources are traditional, while one is considered experimental. The two traditional reference works reviewed are "The American Heritage Children's Science Dictionary" for upper elementary grades, and "The American Heritage Student Science Dictionary" for middle level and high school. Both school dictionaries have terms from astronomy, biology, chemistry, geography, medicine, and mathematics as well as the environment and computer technology. These dictionaries would be good for both teachers and students to find scientific words that students will encounter in school, on television, on the Web, and in magazines and newspapers. The experimental source reviewed is the joint DK/Google "e.encyclopedia science." Like earlier general "e.encyclopedia," students are supposed to read background information in the book, and then go to the special web page to type in provided keywords that lead them to videos, websites, and pictures so that they can learn more about the topic. The book is arranged topically, and basic and applied sciences are included--Matter and Materials, Forces and Energy, Electricity and Magnetism, Space, Earth, Plants, Animals, and Human Body are the eight major topics.
