In this paper, differences in the backgrounds and attitudes of men and women enlisted in the Army are found to be significant. Women tend to be older, better educated, and less desperate to escape from the complexities and dilemmas of civilian life than male enlistees. (Author/WI)

Among the findings are that men fare better than women in fulfilling post college career expectations, that women are less likely to obtain field related work and more likely to say they have experienced work discrimination, and that women anticipate less earnings and earn less - the one area where expectations match the reality.
