On the Side of the Child: Personal Reflections on Testing, Teaching, and Early Childhood Education.
Meisels, Samuel J.
Young Children, v55 n6 p16-19 Nov 2000
Argues that standardized testing encourages a standardized pedagogy in a nonstandard, diverse student population and is characterized by logical fallacies and procedural problems. Concludes that conventional tests create barriers to learning and educational policies with important consequences for children. Encourages early childhood teachers to be generative educators who do not allow tests and testing policies to deter their goals. (KB)
