From Theory to Practice: A Contextual Framework for Understanding Self-Determination in Early Childhood Environments.
Erwin, Elizabeth J.; Brown, Fredda
Infants and Young Children, v16 n1 p77-87 Jan-Mar 2003
This article discusses self-determination for young children and provides a framework for looking at self-determination across routines in a variety of early childhood settings. A self-monitoring set of questions is presented to help practitioners and families in examining contextual and multiple factors, specifically: (1) the child's current self-determination skills; (2) the adult's style and behavior; and (3) the immediate learning environment.
