Is There Room for Reflection in a Science Course for Nonscience Majors? A New Way to Look at Assessment
Eason, Grace
Journal of College Science Teaching, v35 n5 p37-41 Mar-Apr 2006
The Diagnostic Learning Log (Angelo and Cross 1993) is a focused journal entry where students indicate what they have learned from a particular unit, pose questions, indicate aspects of classroom practice they found helpful, and provide suggestions for facilitating their own understanding of the subject matter. The log provides an instructor with in-depth information and insight into students' thinking skills and their awareness of their own learning. This instrument also allows students to document, diagnose, and determine a course of action to better their learning in specific classes. (Contains 4 figures and 2 tables.)
