An Undergraduate Journal Club Experience: A Lesson in Critical Thinking
Roberts, Jennifer
Journal of College Science Teaching, v38 n3 p28-31 Jan 2009
In an effort to better prepare undergraduate students to read and critically evaluate scientific literature, a journal club experience was introduced into a university's bachelor of science curriculum. As a result of this experience, students have been found to be more thoughtful, poised, and articulate presenters, a fact that they, the students, confirm. Additionally, undergraduates and alumni understand more deeply about the careers they have elected to pursue, they become interested in some topics that might otherwise have gone unnoticed, and perhaps most important of all, they appreciate the broader scientific community and the processes involved.
