Pedersen, Arne A.; Jacobs, Judith E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
Investigated whether there was a difference in achievement between ninth and tenth grade students upon completion of a year of biology. A comparison of mean scores on the final examination showed there was no significant difference between grade levels. (MLH)

Novick, Shimshon; Duvdvani, Dina – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
The following variables were correlated with attitudes toward science: school type, future specialization, curriculum, sex, achievement level, and cultural background. Only the curriculum variable did not correlate significantly. (MLH)

Crocker, Robert K.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
Sixth-grade students received both structured and unstructured instruction on a physical science activity. Using test results, an analysis by treatment alone indicated that subjects achieved higher scores when taught in the structured mode. However, significant interactions of variables (type of activity and teacher) were also found. (MLH)

Simpson, Ronald D.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1976
High school students were administered attitude tests with variations in wording (strong or mild) and stance (positive or negative). Resultant data showed that the positive versus negative item structure influenced student responses more than mild versus strong wording. (MLH)

Peterson, Rita W. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
Studied the effect of the presence of an adult on the responses of a racially mixed group of elementary school children to curiosity-arousing objects. Results showed that the children exhibited more curiosity when they were left alone. A significant interaction was also found for age x sex x race. (MLH)

Billeh, Victor Y.; Hasan, Omar E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
A sample of 186 Jordanese high school science teachers participated in a summer training course in chemistry, physical science, physics, or biology. Analysis of pretest-posttest means showed significant increases in understanding the nature of science for participants in the chemistry, physical science, and physics groups. (MLH)

Shymansky, James A.; And Others – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
Describes a study using two types of macroanalytic analyses of observed teacher behaviors in the classroom. The findings of the study showed one of the macroanalytic techniques to be more effective as it identified broader behavior patterns occurring over longer periods of time. (MLH)

Taylor, L. Eldon; Armstrong, Terry R. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
Describes a study in which the Predicted Role Measure (PRM) was found to be a predictive instrument for separating preservice teachers into activity-centered and textbook-centered elementary science teachers. Using Cattell's 16-Personality Factor Questionnaire, a significant difference was also found between the personality profiles of the two…

Ogden, William R. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
Statements of the objectives of secondary school chemistry teaching appearing in six science education journals during 1918-1972 are divided into six chronological periods and classified as knowledge, process, attitude and interest, or cultural awareness. Includes tables giving percentage rankings of the four main categories and eighteen…

Hasan, Omar E.; Billeh, Victor Y. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
After attending a four-week summer training course in science teaching, a sample of 129 Jordanese secondary school science teachers showed no over-all significant change in their attitude toward science. Professional inservice training was found to be positively related to the teachers' change in attitude, while their level of education had a…

Tamir, P.; Jungwirth, E. – Journal of Research in Science Teaching, 1975
A battery of tests was administered to three groups of high school students who studied the Israel Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS) Adaptation Program for several years. Compared with non-BSCS students, the progress of the BSCS students in biological knowledge, inquiry skills, and understanding of science demonstrates the feasibility of…
