Using Student Self-Assessment of Biological Concepts in an Introductory Biology Course.
Heinze-Fry, Jane Ann
Journal of College Science Teaching, v22 n1 p39-43 1992
Describes the author's methods to establish what students enrolled in an introductory biology course for nonmajors know about biology prior to instruction. The project also compared preinstructional knowledge to postinstructional knowledge. Beginning students knew the least about plant transport/chemical control and cellular metabolism. Students understood general concepts better than specific concepts and understood structural concepts better than functional. (PR)
