Instructional Note: The Interpretive-Paraphrase Workshop
Houp, G. Wesley
Teaching English in the Two-Year College, v31 n4 p408-411 May 2004
This article describes the interpretive paraphrase class workshop method, which emphasizes dialogue as a centerpiece of the composing process and provides students with opportunities to re-envision their compositions based on the alternative readings of their peers. A major goal of this writing workshop is to create and sustain student-talk about writing. The interpretative-paraphrase workshop helps foster a more developed sense of audience in student writers by allowing real audiences--interested classmates--to dramatize timely, relevant responses and enter into direct dialogue.
