Comprehension, Concept Formation, and Written Expression: Strategies and Challenges for Teaching College Writing to Students with Learning Disabilities
Gordon, Ricia
Teaching English in the Two-Year College, v32 n2 p154-165 Dec 2004
This article profiles a group of college students with learning disabilities, outlines strategies used to help those students in their 100-level expository-writing class, and illustrates persistent writing problems with three student writing samples. This study revealed that, even with explicit support, students whose learning disabilities had an impact on their comprehension, concept formation, and written expression continued to struggle to produce clear, coherent, expressive prose.
