Fiscal Indicators for Postsecondary Education in New York State, 1979-80 through 1983-84.
New York State Education Dept., Albany.
Financial statistics on postsecondary education finance in New York State, including trends in both state support and sector revenues and expenditures, are assessed. Standardized fiscal information for 1979-1980 through 1983-1984 is provided for the four sectors: the State University of New York (SUNY), City University of New York, the private sector, and the proprietary sector. The materials are designed to provide policymakers with a common base for discussion of financial practice and policies affecting higher education in the state. State support for higher education is indicated for the 5-year period, both in total dollars, and as a proportion of total state revenues. Included are statistics on institutional unrestricted revenue by source; per student cost and revenue indicators by sector; and per student revenue indicators by types of institution within the SUNY and independent sectors. Data items include the cost of instruction and noninstructional costs (e.g., student services, libraries, administration, and facility operation); and tuition and fees. The percent change in funding over the period is shown, along with corresponding changes in the Higher Education Price Index. The fiscal diversity of the subgroups of institutions within the two sectors is highlighted in the analysis. A fiscal glossary, definitions, and a list of the members of the advisory council committee are included. (SW)
