The data in this publication were reported in the Employees in Institutions of Higher Education surveys made in academic years 1971-72 and 1972-73. These surveys were included in the Higher Education General Information Surveys (HEGIS) conducted annually by the National Center for Education Statistics. Both the 1971-72 and the 1972-73 surveys gathered data on salaries of selected administrative positions and of full-time resident faculty, and on fringe benefits received by full-time resident faculty. The 1972-73 survey, in addition, gathered data on the numbers of full-time, part-time, and full-time-equivalent professional employees by occupational activity and program function. (Author)
