Each student in one mathematics class was given approximately 60 sets of review exercises to insure a minimum level of proficiency for subsequent coursework. Students were then given adequate time (based on past experience) in which to complete the exercises, with the stipulation that when a student completed all exercises correctly, he need not attend class until the end of this time period. Results showed that subsequent course material was covered faster and with more enthusiasm than had ever been the case. (JO)
