Education for Biotechnology.
Rinard, Bonnie F.
A study for a consortium of two-year postsecondary institutions investigated technician training needs in the field of biotechnology. It assessed the need for biotechnicians from 1985 to 1995 and investigated the potential need to develop two-year postsecondary biotechnician curricula. The scope of the project included identification of current and expected applications of biotechnology, identification of potential employers of biotechnicians, establishment of a Biotechnology Task Force on Education to evaluate and interpret study findings, preparation of a preliminary listing of job skills and knowledge required of biotechnicians, and development of a model two-year curriculum in biotechnology. The report contains the listing of biotechnician tasks and a model curriculum. Tentative course descriptions for each course in the curriculum are also provided. Information is presented on tailoring the model curriculum. Appendixes include the survey form, a listing of companies surveyed, a listing of task force members, and survey findings. (YLB)
