Assesses the social and economic consequences of lifelong learning, highlighting the fact that most continuing education students are educated and affluent; the possible effects of the institutionalization of learning and experience; the possibility for equity in continuing education through appropriate programming; and lifelong learning's potential to contribute to social change.
