This course curriculum is intended for use by community college instructors and administrators in implementing a fundamentals in hardware course. A student's course syllabus provides this information: credit hours, catalog description, prerequisites, required text, instructional process, objectives, student evaluation, and class schedule. A student lecture guide consists of a sheet for each of the 15 units with unit contents, unit objectives, rationale, learning activities, vocabulary, and evaluation. Unit topics are the following: introduction; environmental and operating procedures--reducing potential problems; preparation, documentation, and tools; troubleshooting strategies and skills; troubleshooting; processors; computer architecture and assembly language; disk drives; servicing printers; writing specifications for orders; troubleshooting the main computer and keyboard; modems, monitors, cassette recorders, and game controllers; troubleshooting power supplies; microcomputer installation and upgrading; and future prospects for computer hardware. A student lab guide provides this information for each of the 15 units: objectives, required equipment and materials, learning activities, steps, and evaluation. The instructor's course syllabus outlines prerequisites, required text, references, required equipment and materials, instructional process, and student evaluation. Competency statements and a course outline are included.
