Planning for Articulation: 2 + 2 Vocational Education Programs.
White, Barbara
This document describes 2 + 2, a form of articulation between high school and community college programs that involves 2 years of secondary and 2 years of postsecondary vocational training, which has become a major goal of vocational education policymakers in the 1980s. This report mentions a variety of strategies that have been discussed and/or implemented to achieve some level of articulation--among which are "early admissions,""articulated curriculum," and "credit by examination." This document provides an overview of 2 + 2 programs, including a definition that differentiates 2 + 2 from other articulation strategies. Two sections address the articulation process (how to make it work) and articulation issues (barriers that hinder success). Another major component of this document is a chart listing 2 + 2 programs identified through a literature search. This document is meant to promote and encourage articulation and the envisioning of a broader and better vocational program in Hawaii. A 32-item reference is found at the end of the document. (NLL)
