A Statistical Analysis of Extended Campus "School Sites" at De Anza College From Winter 1976 to Fall 1977. De Anza College Extended Campus, Report 1.
Caldwell, F. L.; Charles, Dick
In order to analyze the productivity of 11 De Anza College extended campus "school sites" (elementary, junior and senior high schools), course offerings, enrollments, class size, and course cancellation data for each site were reviewed. Seventh week enrollments and seven quarters of offerings by the humanities, behavioral science, science, and student services divisions were applied to an Extended Campus Enrollment and Cancellation Matrix according to 14 categories: classes attempted, cancellations, percentage of cancellations, total of students enrolled, classes still operating by the second apportionment period, and average enrollment by divisions; classes attempted, cancellations, percentage of cancellations, total of students, classes still operating as of the second apportionment period, and average enrollment at each site by divisions; collective totals for each site; and collective totals for areas within divisions. Findings indicated site cancellation ratings and enrollment rankings did not establish site success or failure. Site cancellation data were influenced by a multitude of factors such as variation between areas within divisions in maintaining enrollment and cancellations standards, and inadequate site scrutiny. The matrix appeared to be a successful organizing tool. (TR)
