The American Freshman: National Norms for Fall 1978.
Astin, Alexander W.; And Others
This is the thirteenth annual report of national normative data on characteristics of students entering college as first-time, full-time freshmen. The series, initiated in 1966, is part of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), an ongoing longitudinal study of the American educational system. The freshman survey data reported here were gathered from most of the country's higher education institutions by the Student Information Form, and have been weighted to provide information for use by persons engaged in policy analysis, manpower planning, administration, educational research, guidance and counseling, as well as by the general community of students and parents. The normative data are reported separately for men and women, and for 38 different groupings of institutions. The major stratifying factors are the predominant race of the institution's population (black or white), and institutional type, control, and selectivity. Some narration precedes the extensive data tables. A table showing institutional participation throughout the survey's history, the survey instrument, and related information are appended. (MSE)
