This annual report of the General Studies Division of Brunswick Junior College includes a list of the division's goals and objectives and a summary of faculty activities to achieve those aims during the 1983-84 academic year. The report summarizes division activities related to the following goals: (1) to market programs more effectively--related objectives are to increase the number of students exposed to division programs and to increase student enrollment; (2) to increase the number of students who persist in division courses and programs--related objectives are to build support systems, strengthen basic skills, and encourage the use of campus academic support systems; (3) to develop programs to meet student needs and to reflect the desired balance in a liberal arts education--related objectives are to implement an honors program, initiate a "writing across the curriculum" program, and recommend program changes; (4) to emphasize faculty development--related objectives are to implement a faculty development program and encourage faculty to engage in scholarly publication, participate in professional organizations, and conduct research; (5) to emphasize excellence in teaching--related objectives are to emphasize personalized instruction and relate syllabi to department goals; (6) to support extracurricular student activities--related objectives are to support campus activities and sponsor student organizations; and (7) to support the institution--related objectives are to accept assignments and serve the community.
