This document was designed to serve as a guide for coordinators of cooperative vocational education programs in the University of Hawaii community colleges. Areas covered include: (1) the purpose, definition, criteria for, and advantages of cooperative vocational education; (2) the role of the coordinator as it relates to legal responsibilities and the selection of training stations; (3) placement of students; (4) training agreements; (5) coordination visits to students' places of cooperative employment; (6) related instruction and alternative scheduling; (7) evaluation of student progress in cooperative jobs and related instruction; (8) use of advisory committees and the purposes of public relations; and (9) program evaluation. Appended are a summary of federal and state labor laws, a list of regional offices of the State of Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, sample training agreements and training plans, an outline for related instruction, sample evaluation forms, a model certificate of employer appreciation, sample graduate follow-up forms, and other related forms.
