Intended for the high school and college reader, this collection of essays from poets, teacher-poets, and classroom teachers presents the available resources for making poetry in the classroom a varied, pleasurable, and intellectual experience. The collection is divided into three sections. In the first section, some perspectives on what poetry is and how it comes into existence are provided. The second section focuses on classroom approaches that make poetry accessible to students, and the third section deals with resources that go beyond the conventional materials usually found in the classroom: popular music; ethnic poetry; connections among art, film, and poetry; methods for publishing student poetry; and sources of poetry beyond the traditional literature anthology.
