A Follow-up Study: The Registered Nurses Program, 1977.
Kondwros, Jerry M.
Twenty-seven (77.1%) of the thirty-five 1977 graduates of the South Georgia Colleges' Division of Nursing responded to a follow-up survey, producing the following information: (1) 17 were employed full-time, two were employed part-time, and eight were unemployed; (2) 88.9% agreed they were prepared adequately for the state board examination; (3) 77.8% felt that the nursing curriculum met their expectations; (4) clinical training was judged adequate in all areas but emergency room techniques; (5) obstetrical, surgical, medical, and psychiatric areas reflected a high level of agreement on training adequacy; (6) needs cited for additional learning were in clinical and hospital experiences and improved emergency room training. Recommendations for future program development included textbook reassessment, additional courses in math and bio-chemistry, and more emphasis on in-class techniques. The questionnaire is appended.
