This study was designed to determine the association between selected variables and an audio-tape approach to instruction. Fifty sophomore students enrolled in a physical anthropology course at Shoreline Community College (Washington) participated in an experimental instructional program that consisted of thirty-two audio-tapes and three optional seminars per week. The results of the investigation indicated: a negative relationship existed between the length of tapes and their respective student evaluation; the need for autonomy was positively related to performance on examinations based on the tapes and student evaluation of the tapes; there was no relationship between sex and performance on examinations based on the tests; and attitude toward the tapes followed an "s"-curve with a low period occurring near the middle of the quarter.
