All 484 transfer-oriented students were surveyed one year after they completed at least 48 semester hours at Harper College; an 82% response rate was attained. Results showed that over 75% of the transfer alumni continued their education, but 20% of these were enrolled at Harper. Of those who left Harper, 73% transferred to another college or university and 64% achieved an associate degree before departing. Of those remaining at Harper, 25% had already received a degree. More alumni tended to major in business and engineering and fewer in social sciences, education, architecture, and mathematics. There was also a trend toward alumni remaining in the same field after transferring. Students appeared to perform well at the new institution and they had a good record of transferring almost all of their classes. Alumni rated a number of services better at Harper than at their new institution. However, courses taken at Harper were rated as slightly less beneficial than rated by previous alumni. There was a substantial decline in the indicated use of Harper's learning resource center, though computer services were used more. During their time at Harper, one-fifth of the alumni worked full-time, while five out of six worked at least 10 hours per week.
