Classroom Utilization Review. Research Monograph III [and] Classroom Utilization Comparing Spring 1984 to Spring 1985. Research Monograph VII.
Shirazi, Annmarie
Studies were conducted to analyze classroom utilization at Oklahoma City Community College for spring and fall, 1984, and spring, 1985. During all three semesters, there were 68 general purpose classroom areas, although some of the lab areas had classes scheduled in them. Study findings revealed: (1) heaviest classroom usage was between 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday; (2) in fall 1984, there was particularly heavy usage on Monday evenings with over 100% of the classrooms full (i.e., lab areas were also in use as classrooms); (3) afternoons had the lowest usage, especially on Fridays and from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; (4) mornings after 9:00 a.m. showed fairly good utilization with 50% of the available classrooms in use; (5) the building was more heavily used in spring 1985 than in spring 1984.
