The authors were commissioned to study the nature of the training programs for two-year college English teachers, the feasibility of establishing such a program at the University of Texas, Austin, and the likelihood of placing graduates of such a program. The essential question of the study was considered to be what the leaders of Texas community colleges want and need in a teacher training program.
