The Integrated Basic Science Course at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Hackett, Dorothy Nichols
This study was concerned with the formulation of a possible solution to several of the aspects of a total problem resulting from the involvement of Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Michigan) with allied health programs. The heterogeneity of the science and mathematical backgrounds of 282 students desiring to enter a health curriculum was ascertained to demonstrate the rationale for developing in integrated basic science course as a prerequisite foundation for the diversity of knowledge contained within the given curricula. Two primary objectives of the study included the validation of those biological concepts incorporated in the basic science course and the development of these concepts into discrete modular units. Twelve units, each a complete learning package with objectives, text, glossary and programmed self-test, were designed to increase the flexibility of instructional techniques available. (Author/EB)
