Registration data from six Hawaii community colleges were examined to determine the characteristics of those students enrolled in credit programs during Summer 1981. Data were collected and analyzed on headcount enrollment and students' age; sex; program; status as continuing, new, or transfer students; citizenship; permanent and local residence; and semester hours carried. Major findings revealed that 3,569 regular students were enrolled in credit courses, representing a 17% increase from the previous summer's enrollment of 3,047. Further analysis of the data indicated that: (1) females outnumbered males for the first time in the colleges' history (1,817 females compared to 1,747 males); (2) 25% of the students were liberal arts majors, 27% were in vocational programs, and 45% were unclassified; (3) the majority of the students (58%) enrolled were continuing students; (4) the mean student age was 26.1 years; and (5) the students carried an average load of 4.1 credit hours and generated 14,518 semester hours.
