Summarizes criticisms of the community college in a list of six ways in which two-year colleges promote the socio-economic status quo. Reviews the writings of Clark, Jencks and Riesman, Cohen, Astin, Karabel, and Zwerling--all university-based critics. Robinson, William S. – Teaching English in the Two-Year College, 1998
Argues that, to deal effectively with sentence errors of basic writers, it is crucial to distinguish between what should be left alone and what can be productively marked and how it should be marked. Proposes a taxonomy of four sources of errors (knowledge, dialect, process, and developmental errors) and seven ways to address them. (SR)

In fall 1974, the American Association of Community and Junior Colleges and the Academic Collective Bargaining Information Service conducted a survey to collect data on collective bargaining in two-year colleges. Examines the status of humanities curricula in community colleges nationwide. Data gathered on course offerings and enrollments from 178 two-year colleges in 1975 and 1977 showed that humanities enrollments decreased while total two-year college enrollment increased. (DR)
