Direct Entry Enrollments of Miami-Dade County High School Graduates: Fall and Spring (Winter) Terms, 1996-97 through 2000-01. Research Report.

This document is a report on the enrollment of high school graduates from Miami-Dade County (Florida) at Miami-Dade Community College (M-DCC). The report includes statistics on students from Florida high schools as well as out-of-state high schools. Provided are demographics on the students, including ethnicity, gender, and type of high school (public, private, special, and magnet). Statistics are provided for the entire system as well as for each separate campus. The report shows that: (1) M-DCC had a draw of 4,733 or 35.2% (of the county total) of the high school graduates in 2000-01; (2) the reported ethnic breakdown of students was 20.8% white, 27.5% black, and 44.6% Hispanic; (3) the county showed a 1.4% increase in high school graduations over the last five years, but a 5.6% decrease in draw to M-DCC; (4) statistics from last two years show the enrollment of black high school graduates at the M-DCC has increased 13.9% over the last two years, while white and Hispanic high school graduate enrollees has decreased by 8.8% and 0.8% respectively; (5) Kendall campus enrolled the most prior-year high school graduates, at 2,135 students; (6) schools with the highest percent draw were Miami Senior (52.7%), Sunset (46.9%), Hialeah (45%), and South Miami (44.8%); and (7) in all, 44 private/special/magnet schools were represented among 2000-01 new high school graduates enrolled at M-DCC.
